Digital Fluency Intensive - Day 8 - Computational Thinking

Digital Fluency Intensive - Day 8 - Computational Thinking

1. What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Where the idea of empowered, as another word for agency, lies within the Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy and that it was derived from the negative associations that whanau had with the notion of agency and agencies, especially among the working poor.

Defining digital fluency helped me understand that our role as educators is to set the foundation for students to navigate a digital environment in a competent way. We also need to ensure that what we are doing in a digital space is having a positive impact on student achievement.

Hopefully our efforts will help them make decisions on what technology to use to solve problems as well as connect to people from throughout the country and the world.

2. What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

Understanding the differences between digital fluency and digital technologies and the role I will play in the implementation of the Digitial Technologies curriculum.

3. What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

How to introduce and work with binaries within the classroom setting in a way and format that is accessible to students. as well as myself.

4. What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

Streamling and enhancing my blogging capability so I can use this communication method in other aspects of my professional life.

  1. Kia ora Craig,
I enjoyed reading your reflection. You have very clearly captured an important aspect of this journey we are on: To support students to develop their digital fluency so that they are empowered to choose and effectively use technology to solve problems and be connected. Have you thought about inserting a screenshot of your binary name badge so that it is visible on your blog without having to follow the link?

  2. Kia ora Craig,
Understanding that difference between digital fluency and the digital technologies we have access to is an important concept isn't it? I love the binary name badge that you created! I was wondering where the link would lead me, that was awesome!
